Did you know? I like beer.

truck full of Hamms
Ich bin ein beirdrinker - Wei geht's? Uebermensch, ja? Nein? der Giest der stets ver neint? nein! man spricht deustch? nein... und so weiter....

Faves:
  • Brands
  • Hamm's. When Lucky became Albertsons, Lucky Lager wasn't the franchise beer anymore. Enter Hamm's. So cheap (often only $8.99 per case on sale). So possible to force down in large quantities.
  • Sheaf stout. The poor man's guinness. Available in 25.6 fluid ounce bottles at your local Safeway. Australian. If you go there and drink it they'll think you're nuts. Still, I like it fine.
  • Twist of Fate bitter. Carried by selected pubs.
  • Death and Taxes black. Occasionally a batch will come through that tastes like it was strained through burnt espresso beans. Not for anyone who thinks Red Hook is a heavy beer.
  • Chimay Have you ever paid ten dollars for a bottle of beer before? How good would the beer have to be for you to do it a second time? Comes in three varities.
  • Sapporo Black Stout Draft Distributed by Safeway. One pint plus 6oz. per can. A nice stout. Not what you might expect from Japan. An excellent sleep aid. All of the Sapporo available in those big curvy cans is pretty good actually.
  • Miller High Life Yeah. What are you looking at? That's what I said. Buy it on sale, of course. Don't pay more than 5.6 cents per fluid ounce.
  • Rolling Rock For some reason this is a "premium" beer in California. I like it. Just like some people prefer vacuum tube electronics to the new digital stuff. I like Rolling Rock. But I buy it when it is on sale. 33.
  • Anything on sale Now that I mention it.
  • Yes, I will buy Pabst on tap if it costs half what everything else costs.
  • Places
  • Lanesplitter - Pizza and beer. A good, compact selection of local brews. Better beer than pizza.
  • Toronado - Haight St. in San Francisco
  • Zeitgeist - Goebbel as slacker, dilettante motorcyclist. "Cold women, warm beer, not responsible for lost morals." Decent selection of beer. You may percieve hostility in the crowd. Why is that, you ask? Probably not in the way you would expect. Around the corner from my favorite motorcycle shop, Scuderia West. Valencia and Duboce in San Francisco.
  • Cato's Ale House - Piedmont Ave, Oakland. Thoroughly unremarkable. Enough good beers. Food too. A couple friends of mine worked there and now shun this place. Life goes on.
  • Trader Joe's. I don't think I would go in to a bar with this name, but this isn't a bar. It's a supermarket chain with house-brand 'micro-brew' beers that are hella cheap and go down well at home in many circumstances.
  • If you know where I can purchase Schaefer or Schlitz in the SF Bay Area, let me know.
